Visit of Dr. Yonghui Wu to FAST-NUCES
Dr. Wu conducted an extensive capacity-building session for around 30 faculty members at FAST-NUCES. His presentation centered on "Teaching Materials, Curriculums, and the Teaching System Cross-Region for Solving Problems by Programming." He elaborated on case-based teaching methodologies, the role of programming contests in enhancing problem-solving skills, and the integration of informatics technology into programming education. Faculty members actively engaged in the session, discussing potential applications of Dr. Wu’s methodologies in their courses and exploring best practices for incorporating programming contests into the curriculum.
Dr. Wu also delivered a dedicated session for students, focusing on "Algorithms and Analysis." A total of 35 students attended the session where Dr. Wu emphasized the importance of algorithmic thinking and problem-solving through programming. Key topics covered included data structures, algorithm design, and online programming judge systems. Drawing from his extensive experience as a coach for programming contests, Dr. Wu shared strategies for excelling in international competitions such as the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). Students found the session highly insightful, with many expressing keen interest in participating in programming contests and applying the discussed techniques to their studies.
On the second day of his visit, Dr. Wu engaged with faculty members from FAST-NUCES, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), and the Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE). The discussions revolved around strengthening inter-university collaboration in programming education, establishing joint training programs, and enhancing participation in international programming competitions. His insights into programming pedagogy and contest training methodologies were well received by attendees.
