Summary
Dr. Muhammad Tariq is Professor and the Head of the School of Engineering at FAST National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences (NUCES) in Islamabad, Pakistan. Previously, he served as the Head of the Department at Peshawar and Islamabad Campuses. In 2017, he was appointed as the youngest campus director at FAST NUCES, a position he held until December 31, 2020. With over 12 years of post-Ph.D. teaching, research, and academic administrative experience, and a total professional experience spanning more than 18 years, Dr. Tariq has established himself as a distinguished academic leader.
He completed his post-doctorate as a Fulbright Scholar under the supervision of the renowned American scientist Prof. H. Vincent Poor. His Ph.D. was funded by the Japanese government (MEXT), and his industrial MS was supported by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Dr. Tariq has authored or co-authored over 100 research papers and articles, achieving an impact score of over 450. He co-authored the book “Smart Grid Standards, Specification, Requirements, and Technologies,” published by John Wiley and Sons in 2015, collaborating with leading researchers, including a Nobel Prize winner. Eight of his Ph.D. students have completed their doctorates under his supervision and are now serving in prestigious universities in Pakistan, Europe, and Canada. He has presented his research at various IEEE flagship conferences worldwide and has traveled to 25 different countries. Dr. Tariq has also served as the General Chair and Session Chair at several IEEE conferences and has contributed to numerous technical committees and editorial boards for high-impact journals and transactions. He is serving as editor and associate editor of several impact factor journals. In 2019, he was recognized as an Outstanding Associate Editor for IEEE Access. In 2017, 2019, and 2023, Dr. Tariq was thrice selected as a High-End Foreign Expert through the International Cooperation Project funded by the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs, China. He has led several projects as Principal Investigator or Team Leader. In 2016, he became one of the youngest Program Evaluators (PEV) for the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). He is a Professional Engineer with PEC and a master trainer of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) for Washington Accord-based Level II Accreditation. From 2019 to 2022, he served as the Chair of the IEEE Peshawar Subsection and is currently the founding chairman of the Pukhtunkhwa Open Source Foundation.
