Pakistan Science Fair Award 2020
Pakistan Science Fair Award 2020 was hosted by Ulster University, UK, in Serena Hotel, Islamabad on 28th of January, 2020. The students from FAST-NUCES (Islamabad Campus), NUST, Air, and Behria Universities participated by presenting their ideas on the topic of Data Science for Social Good. Dr.Kifayat Alizai and Dr.Amna Basharat were responsible/in-charge of receiving and screening the students submissions, their mentoring, overall supervision, and event coordination. They received multiple submissions from the campus, out of which 6 were shortlisted. Subsequently, after a brainstorming session, they selected top 3 FYP posters of Ali Zahid Raja, Soma Syed, and Hamza Tariq. These are all students of batch 16 and currently doing their FYPs.
Each university submitted 3 posters, in this way there were 12 submissions from all 4 universities. Each student defended the idea in the poster before the panel (Judges from Ulster, NUST, FAST, Air, and Bahria) 1 day prior to the formal event. Fortunately, our hard-working students Mr. Ali Zahir Raja (batch 2016) secured the 2nd position. The NUCES' students and faculty members were excited to have the honorable Rector of NUCES-FAST, Dr. Ayub Alvi, amongst them who also delivered an enlightening speech related to Data Science and Artificial Intelligence on the invitation of Ulster University, UK. 2nd position holder, Mr.Ali Zahid Raja,won PKR 55,000 Cash prize along with 50% tuition fee waiver (approximately, PKR 1.37 Million), subject to meeting the entry requirements for the selected program in Ulster University. -

Scholarships by European Union – January 31, 2020
Career Services Office (CSO), NUCES Islamabad campus organizes different sessions related to admissions & Scholarship opportunities abroad. In this regard, CSO organized a session for the currents students on January 31, 2020. Seventy five (75) students of all the degree programs attended the session. Ms. Anne Marchal – Minister / Deputy High Commission of European Union to Pakistan was the speaker of the session. At the end of the session Ms. Marchal answered the different questions of the students related to the admissions/ scholarship in Europe. Pictorial coverage is as under:

Session “University Bubble to Reality"
Career Services Office (CSO), NUCES Islamabad Campus organized an interactive session “University Bubble to Reality all about Employability Skills” by Yousaf Mukhtar on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Mr. Yousaf Mukhtar, a motivational speaker and trainer, is an FAST-NUCES (FAST School of Management) alumnus.The session was interactive in nature which focused on the academia industrial gaps and ways to hunt jobs in the corporate sector. Approximately 40 students from all degree programs benefited from this event. During the whole event all SOP’s regarding covid-19 prevention were strictly followed. Overall event turned out to be productive as it aided in addressing students concerns regarding effective employability skills and techniques crucial for academic success, preparation for accomplishment in the world of work and effective decision-making that will support a healthy work-life. -

QAA-HEC Post Graduate Program Review (PGPR) Visit
Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of Higher Education Commission (HEC) visited FAST National University on January 25 - 26, 2022 for Post Graduate Program Review (PGPR). The objective of such visits is to promote good governance and enhance the quality of graduate programs offered at Higher Education Institutions. The following panel of experts were part of the visitation team: -
1. Dr. Bakhtiar Khan Kasi - Dean, BUITE&MS Quetta
2. Dr. Aamir Hasan - Associate Professor, Habib University Karachi
3. Dr. Rahmat Ellahi - Director QEC, International Islamic University IslamabadThe PGPR proformas prepared by QEC team were presented to the reviewers. The said proformas gave all the required details pertaining to Graduate programs, students and faculty. Review panel during their visit to FAST National University met with the Director Campus, HODs, faculty and students. They also visited all infrastructure facilities including class rooms, library, laboratories and sports facilities.
The entire review process was executed successfully by the QEC in collaboration with all the administrative and academic departments at FAST National University. The panel showed its overall satisfaction and appreciated the efforts of the university’s management. All the stakeholders were advised to continue strengthening their efforts to maintain and enhance the culture of quality at FAST National University.

Visit of Dr. Yonghui Wu to FAST-NUCES
Dr. Wu conducted an extensive capacity-building session for around 30 faculty members at FAST-NUCES. His presentation centered on "Teaching Materials, Curriculums, and the Teaching System Cross-Region for Solving Problems by Programming." He elaborated on case-based teaching methodologies, the role of programming contests in enhancing problem-solving skills, and the integration of informatics technology into programming education. Faculty members actively engaged in the session, discussing potential applications of Dr. Wu’s methodologies in their courses and exploring best practices for incorporating programming contests into the curriculum.
Dr. Wu also delivered a dedicated session for students, focusing on "Algorithms and Analysis." A total of 35 students attended the session where Dr. Wu emphasized the importance of algorithmic thinking and problem-solving through programming. Key topics covered included data structures, algorithm design, and online programming judge systems. Drawing from his extensive experience as a coach for programming contests, Dr. Wu shared strategies for excelling in international competitions such as the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). Students found the session highly insightful, with many expressing keen interest in participating in programming contests and applying the discussed techniques to their studies.
On the second day of his visit, Dr. Wu engaged with faculty members from FAST-NUCES, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), and the Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE). The discussions revolved around strengthening inter-university collaboration in programming education, establishing joint training programs, and enhancing participation in international programming competitions. His insights into programming pedagogy and contest training methodologies were well received by attendees.
